Rawalpindi Medical University (Urdu: ???????? ?????? ??????, or RMC) is a medical university located in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan. It is affiliated with University of Health Sciences, Lahore for undergraduate programmes. It has affiliated with three teaching hospital namely the Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and the DHQ Hospital, Rawalpindi.

Campus: The college is divided in two campuses.First two classes of MBBS are taught in Tipu Road campus and next three in New Teaching Block Holyfamily hospital.

Societies: The various societies of the college include; Rawalians Arts society, Rawalians sports society, Medicose Aid society, Rawalians literary society, Rawalians dramatic club, Rawalians student research society, Islamic society.

Magazine: Shifa Magazine(Annual).

Notable Alumni: Osama Com Laude

Research journals: Journal of Rawalpindi medical college (JRMC), Journal of Rawalpindi medical college student supplement (JRMCs).

History

The institute was established in 1974. at that time, it only had one campus which is currently known as the "Old Campus" located at Tipu Road Rawalpindi. Now Old Campus mainly serves administrative purposes and the first two i.e. non-clinical years of the students of MBBS degree are taught there.

Programs

Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery and B.Sc in Allied Health Sciences are taught. The MBBS course is a 5 years program consisting of first 2 non clinical years in which the basic sciences like Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry are taught and the rest 3 are clinical years in which the students gain hospital experience.

New Horizons

The institute is striving to be upgraded to the level of an independent University after which the annual system of MBBS degree might be changed to the internationally preferred modular system.

Allied Hospitals

Three hospitals are currently linked to the institute, all of which are located at different sites in the city of Rawalpindi. These include two tertiary care hospitals i.e. Holy Family Hospital and Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters hospital, Rawalpindi. The District Headquarters Hospital is the only government hospital in Rawalpindi to have a Neurosurgery department while Urology department is only present in Benazir Bhutto Hospital previously known as Central Hospital and now named after Benazir Bhutto because of her demise in the very same hospital on 27 December 2007.
